Becoming an Artist
Isabel von Zastrow grew up in Kenya, surrounded by expansive landscapes and a deep connection to the natural world—an influence that continues to shape her artistic voice. Adventure defined her early adulthood. She traveled the globe as a professional kiteboarder, ultimately ranking third in the world, living a life driven by wind, water, and discipline. Those years instilled in her resilience, focus, and a strong trust in instinct.
After a decade of competition and constant movement, Isabel felt called toward a quieter, more rooted form of expression. She found her home in Baja California Sur, where the meeting of desert and ocean offered both inspiration and stillness. It was here that she fully transitioned into painting, channeling the same focus and flow she once brought to sport into her art practice.
Her work evolved organically, without rigid planning or preliminary sketches, unfolding intuitively through layered brushwork. Alongside her studio practice, she began offering watercolor workshops, inviting others into the creative process and the meditative rhythm she discovered through painting.
Today, her gallery and large original artworks reflect a life shaped by movement, nature, and transformation—from East Africa to the global stage of professional sport, and finally into the grounded beauty of Baja.
Welcome to the journey.
