Painting Outside the Algorithm - Art in 2026

There’s a subtle pull I’ve felt as an artist to make the same work, again and again.

Not because I’ve run out of ideas, but because repetition is what stays visible on social media. It’s what performs well with the algorithm. It’s categorizable.

And for a moment, it’s tempting to listen.

To refine one thing. To repeat it. To become known for it.

But, for me, creativity doesn’t live there.

My perception of being an artist has never been about mastering only one lane and staying in it. It’s about exploration. It’s about following curiosity wherever it leads.

And I feel there is a responsibility in having this mindset.

Not to the algorithm, but to the work itself.

I feel it in the way I move between clay, watercolor collage, landscapes, prints, cards, and teaching. Each one opens something different. Each one keeps me learning and it’s the constant shift that keeps my work alive and evolving.

I understand now, the moment I start creating only to maintain relevance, I stop growing and I don’t feel the excitement.

Art has never been about staying the same. It’s about pushing, questioning, reinventing. It’s about trusting that your voice is not one fixed thing, but something that expands the more it is allowed to.

I keep making sure to come back to myself, again and again.

To choose exploration over repetition.

To remember the power of creativity has always belonged to the artist not the system around it and my role in that is simple: keep learning, keep trying, keep inventing new ways to share what I see with the world.
